Meet Dr. John Sisto

Dr. John M. Sisto is a highly accomplished and skilled oral and maxillofacial surgeon. He received his dental degree with honors from Loyola University Dental School and completed a residency and certification in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the world-renowned Cook County Hospital. During his dental school training, he was awarded a fellowship in Head and Neck Cancer in Dentistry, which took place at the University of Illinois and Cook County Hospital. This award was sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
Dr. Sisto was involved for over 25 years in the academic and surgical training of residents in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He was the former Director of Residency Education at Cook County Hospital and held teaching appointments as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Illinois Dental School, Northwestern University Dental School, and Northwestern University Medical School. He was also the Division Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Cook County Hospital and Chairman of Dentistry at Resurrection Medical Center. In 1990, he started the residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Cook County Hospital.
He has multiple publications in peer-review journals on the subjects of dental implant surgery, trauma surgery, orthognathic surgery, and maxillofacial infections. He authored a chapter on the Secondary Management of Orbital Fractures. He has lectured both locally and nationally at various educational forums including the Chicago Dental Society and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery national meeting. He was a faculty member of the Illinois Trauma Nurses Association annual course on the topic of Maxillofacial Trauma for 28 years.
Dr. Sisto has attended the most complete training in orthognathic surgery, the Arnett Facial Reconstruction course in Santa Barbra California. He was one of the first surgeons in the United States to incorporate the Nemotec Fab software in orthognathic surgery into his practice. He annually completes over 50 hours or more of continuing education to keep current with the newest advances in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

He has been voted to be one of America’s Best Dentists in the category of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. Dr. Sisto has also been voted one of Chicago’s Top Dentists for 2022, 2023, 2024.
Dr. Sisto is currently on the faculty for Practical Review in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery providing lectures on many topics in the field.

He also provides treatment for a wide variety of pathologic conditions in the oral and facial regions.
He is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
